Qualifications

Ya’Sheaka attended Brenau University Women’s College, where she graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Conflict Resolution and Legal Studies with a minor in English. She earned her Juris Doctor from Stetson University College of Law in May of 2003 and was admitted to the Florida Bar Association in September 2003. During law school, Ya’Sheaka was a member of Stetson’s Advocacy Board and competed on the Moot Court Board, wherein she was a Finalist in the Civil Rights National Moot Court Competition in 2002; she served as the President (2002-2003) and member of the Black Law Student’s Association, and Secretary of the Calvin A. Kuenzel Student Bar Association 2001-2002. She was inducted into the Who’s Who Among America’s Colleges and Universities in 2002-2003. Ya’Sheaka was awarded the Raphael Steinhardt Award, for character, leadership, and service to the community and the Victor O’ Wehle Award, for outstanding performance in trial advocacy.

Upon graduation, Ya’Sheaka became an active member of the St. Petersburg Bar Association, where she served as Co-Chair of the Diversity Committee 2004-2005. The Barney Masterson Inns of Court awarded her the Judge Pennick Award for her commitment to community service in 2004. She is a member of the Fred G. Minnis, Sr. Bar Association, where she has served as Secretary 2003-2004, Scholarship Banquet Chair 2004 and 2005, and Foundation Board Member 2005-Present. She is a member of the Florida Defense Lawyers Association and a member of the Stetson Lawyers Association Advisory Council, 2004-Present. Ya’Sheaka is also a member of the George Edgecomb and Hillsborough County Bar Associations.
